Dog Survey Results

You might recall that earlier this year the Merricks Beach Residents’ Association Committee and the Merricks Beach Foreshore Committee of Management ran a survey to understand the views of the Merricks Beach community, and also other users of Merricks Beach, concerning what they think about dogs on the beach and the effectiveness of current regulations.

The collated results are now in and a pdf is available on the link below – note in the results 1 means totally disagree and 5 means totally agree.

Both Committees are grateful for the large number of responses received from residents and visitors to Merricks Beach (557 in total). These will help inform the way in which this issue will be considered by the MBRA and Foreshore Committees, and how we might respond to the recent Council position paper published on the management of dogs on the Mornington Peninsula.

The dogs of Merricks Beach – Summary

Update 9th December 2022: As an update to the above dog survey post, please note that the Mornington Peninsula Shire has recently undertaken a public consultation on its Draft Dogs in Public Places Policy and you can find more details here: https://shape.mornpen.vic.gov.au/dogs-policy

The MBRA and MBFC have made separate submissions to the Shire as part of the public consultation and a copy of the submission the MBRA has made is attached below. This submission summarised the dog survey results and attached a copy of those dog survey results. The MBRA has requested that the Shire engage in more consultation as part of any next steps.
