On Queen’s Birthday weekend in June, we held our annual plant giveaway.
The event went very well with community volunteers manning the stall and offering advice. 335 plants were collected by enthusiastic gardeners with 100 plants remaining. These were distributed to locations around Merricks Beach and planted around local areas such as the Minto Street chicane and Bill Carroll Reserve.
There were 12 different plants to choose from including four varieties of grass, four different shrubs and four native tree varieties.
Recommended planting methods, plastic netting and bamboo stakes were also available for interested gardeners.
No doubt these plants are now more established and becoming food source and refuge for our local birdlife and native animals.
