The MBRA would like to provide residents with easy to access links to Shire documents important in Planning Permit process that study and celebrate the unique features of Merricks Beach. These include the Western Port Coastal Villages & Surrounding Settlements Strategy Sept 2019 as well as the Neighbourhood Character Study and Guidelines. Sections relevant to Merricks Beach have extracted and attached for ease.
It is important to note that the Mornington Peninsula Shire adopted these guidelines as a Planning Scheme Amendment on 6 August 2024: https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au/Services/Planning-and-building/Strategic-planning/Planning-Scheme-amendments/Amendment-C219morn-Housing-for-the-Peninsula
Links are below to the Mornington Peninsula Shire website which includes the documents and the Merricks and Merricks Beach township Brochure is attached for ease as well.
This includes information on the designation of Merricks Beach as a Bush Coastal 2 Neighbourhood Character Area with a Vision as follows:
Merricks and Merricks Beach will retain their bushland character represented by small scale dwellings located along unsealed roads lined by significant vegetation. In Merricks, this character will be enhanced by development that is generously set back from the road and concealed by dense vegetation in front yards that feature long driveways. At Merricks Beach, new development will have large setbacks from the foreshore, protected native coastal vegetation, and a low-profile built form that will ensure dwellings will not dominate viewlines from the coast, and that the unspoilt quality of the beach is preserved.
More information on Fencing in the Merricks Beach Village can be found under the Useful Information and Document tab on our website.
